In addition to the South Bay’s own Luis Valdez, Lynn Nottage was honored at this inaugural Festival on the way to Africa for final research of her subsequently Pulitzer Prize winning "Ruined"
Phillip E Walker directed Mikie Grant, Jerome Preston Bates, Shannon Lamb and D. DeLance Minefee in the original "Almost September" reading
Calling the experience "beautiful", two time TONY Award nominee, Grammy, Drama Desk, OBIE, NAACP Image, etc. winner Micki Grant led the Play reading's original cast. Five time ADELCO award winning Jerome Preston Bates (who played in the original Broadway production of August Wilson's "Seven Guitars") read Jessie opposite Shannon Lamb's Jean, following her appearance in the Sundance Film Festival. Stage directions were read by D. DeLance Minefee who was seen as Zero in Disney's "Holes".
